“The castle” was built on the ruins of the ancient castle of the Moors, conquered in 1165 by the King of Portugal, Don Afonso Henriques. Its walls and the medieval citadel are visible from afar. From way uphill, he bay and the city of Sesimbra are visible. Nearby, we can observe the grandiose landscapes of Espichel cape and the welcoming beaches of Meco (National Monument).

The Sesimbra Castle stands 240 meters above the sea level, covered by a painted vault. At the opposite end, there is a watchtower with crenellated wall with the four seventeenth-century ramparts.
