In 2007, the Lisbon Golf Coast was named the best European Golf destination by the IAGTO and ever since, the courses in the region have been striving to maintain these high standards. The courses around Lisbon provide excellent golfing facilities in a natural environment of quiet and beauty. So let’s take a moment to review some of these courses with soft leveled grass.

Opened in 1936, Estoril Coast is a luxury beach resort with a championship golf course just 25 minutes’ distance from Lisbon. It is in fact the oldest and most famous club in Portugal and was designed by Mackenzie Ross. With the Golf Academy here, you have the best chances of getting the hang of the sport within just a week!

If you want to mix golf with cultural travel, you can go to the medieval village of Obidos and walking under the scented pine trees of the forest, you will get inspired to play at the Praia d’El Rey golf course, which, as the name suggests, promises to offer a truly royal experience.

Another popular golf destination around Lisbon is Quinta da Marinha, offering flat terrain and gorgeous panoramic views. The view is quite spectacular, with the majestic Sintra mountain in view.

Around the local golf industry, transportation services have also developed, so most people choose to go online and book a Lisbon golf transfer to take them from the hotel or address to the golf course and back. It’s a really good idea!

There are at least twelve, very highly rated golf courses in the greater Lisbon area, most of them being located between Estoril and Sintra where some great accommodation options are available as well.

It is interesting to note, that while the golf courses are obviously open all throughout the year, they are at peak popularity during late October and early November as that is when the international Golf Week takes place in the region, with golfers from all around the world being invited to take part.

The Estoril Golf Club for instance can be found on the A5 motorway, between Lisbon and Cascais, and boasts twenty-seven holes designed by McKenzie Ross.

A bit more to the North, you’ll find the exquisite Praia D’el Rei golfing and beach resort, the golf course there having been designed by renowned American golf architect, Cabell B. Robinson. The golf layout here is considered by many to be one of the most picturesque in Europe, featuring everything from a pine forest to undulating dunes, all of which are set against a backdrop created by the Atlantic and the Berlenga Islands.

Diametrically opposed, to the farther South of Lisbon you can find the village of Sesimbra, which besides offering a slew of great beaches it also features the Quinta Do Peru Golf Course which was designed by Rocky Roquemore, another American golf architect. The course is meant more for amateur golfers and beginners, but it can pose a challenge to more experienced ones as well.
